Just about every year for the past several years we have taken the boys to the Monster Jam event, held at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. It’s usually the second or third weekend in January, so the tickets always seem to show up one way or another at Christmas. This year was no exception.
When Kirby, our elf from the North Pole left his goodbye letter, he included tickets for the whole family to once again enjoy Monster Jam. As always the event was a blast. There’s something about lawn mower racing, demolition truck and trailer races and of course monster trucks that is very entertaining. The bigger they go and the more they destroy everything in their path (including their own trucks) the more the crowd goes wild, and the brighter my boys’ faces light up.
As always, we picked our favorites in each race and then cheered for Grave Digger, who won the racing this year. However, the most exciting part of the evening is the freestyle event. This is where the course is laid out so that the trucks can jump a get huge air as well as destroy various cars, trucks and RVs around the course. While Grave Digger usually goes huge and takes the freestyle event, this was a little different. While there was several awesome performances, Ryan Anderson, son of Dennis Anderson in Grave Digger was the highlight of the freestyle event. Freestyle was so wild this year that there were trucks scattered all over the course at the end of the night – embedded in the mud, stuck inside a bus, overturned and left in pieces.
The reason we return year after year is because our boys have such a good time. It’s a fun event that we all go to together and leave having been well entertained. I have no doubt we will be back next year!
